The overall result is a strange and wonderful melody of tunes that is completely unique to that individual user. As time goes by, the initial points of contact grow in size and morph the sounds even more. While this is happening, a basic tune is plays in the background and the more notes that get added, the more the player can influence the overall composition of the music. The lower touch-sensitive screen allows the gamer to touch different areas, and as a result a different musical note is played. First up was a blue level spanning both of the DS' screens. Three different levels were demoed on stage by Nintendo's Bill Trinen, and each showed distinctly unique methods of how to operate ElectroPlankton. Focusing on interacting with the user in a less conventional manner, ElectroPlankton was described as an interactive musical composition experience - along a similar vein to something like Rez. Of the two new titles shown to the audience, it was ElectroPlankton that garnered the most buzz and gossip. Part of the talk revealed how the Nintendo DS hardware can offer some of these new and different ideas and concepts to the consumer. His "Heart of the Gamer" keynote speech touched on the new vision for Nintendo's future in terms of delivering software and games that appeal to a wider audience - not just the already established core video-game players. Today at the Game Developers Conference, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata talked at length about the importance of innovation in video-game design.
